SUBSTANCE is about creating commerce and opportunity through collaboration.

It is about building the kind of informal production partnerships that you find in open source digital development and transferring the model to the media. It’s about shared and co-operative excellence for the greater good.

We are here because we think things can be better. That together we can create better media, a better website and make better products. If you agree, join us.

There are two separate opportunities for you to work with us, either on the magazine section and/or product design for sale through Substance’s website and, when specified, third parties.

We believe strongly in sharing any profits fairly and all collaborators will get a share per submission used. There are different rates and payment terms for magazine and product submissions but the concept is the same for both areas: we share the proceeds.

Each submission will receive an advance and some kind of back end payment. If you design clothes this is a share of the proceeds and if you contribute to the magazine we allocate a share of advertising revenue and any syndication income.

We want all aspects of SUBSTANCE to be open to collaboration. We especially need writers, photographers and filmmakers, in short journalists of all persuasions. We want fashion designers and illustrators to come together in SUBSTANCE to create fresh and vital hybrids rather than the norm. There’s only one rule and you all know what it is. The only limitation is our imaginations and that means, logically, that there are no limitations.

We are open to from web guys, ad guys, stylists, animators, DJs and musicians. If you have what we need to help us create SUBSTANCE then get in touch.
